Water in Your Basement? Our Experienced Specialists Come to Your Rescue!
Water seeping into your basement can seem like a catastrophe. Whether or not your basement is finished, a wet space is usually the result of a high water table. It is unhealthy, causing mold to grow, and can lead to excessive property damage. You need to call in the Cleveland basement waterproofing experts at Daniel's Waterproofing.
What Happens If I Find Water in My Basement?
Once you've figured out that water is getting into your basement, you need to figure out where it's coming from.
Here are some things to check:
- The soil around your home should divert water away from the outer walls.
- Ensure all gutters and drainage pipes on the exterior of your home are effective in directing water away from your home.
- Basement windows should be watertight and above the soil level.
- Make sure your roof is draining properly.
I Definitely Have a Leak, What's Next?
What if you can't find where the water is coming from? Or, you've found it, now what? A consultation with our Northern Ohio interior waterproofing specialists will provide you with various options when it comes to taking care of the water in your walls and floor.
We understand that every basement is unique, so we will customize a plan to secure your home. A water problem in the basement is usually not caused by just one culprit – there could be cracking in the floor, movement in the walls, and more. We will devise a plan to prevent this from happening in the future.
What Are Your Waterproofing Options?
While it is best to make sure your basement is waterproofed during the construction of your home, there are a few options to review:
- Waterproofing Paint: Only a cosmetic fix and will not solve the major leaks
- Crack Injections: Recommended only for concrete walls, not floors. The fix is to inject epoxy into the cracks where the water is seeping through. This may also not be a long-term solution.
- Drainage Structures: Installed under the basement concrete floor and around the footing. The drainage pipes are hidden and usually are connected to a sump pump.

Exterior Basement Waterproofing
Look No Further than Daniel's Waterproofing! We've Got You Covered.
Sometimes your basement walls and floors seep water, especially after heavy rain. This is caused by porous spots in the concrete. In a brick or stone masonry wall, there may be cracks between the joints in the bricks or stones. Another culprit of seepage in your basement is the grade of the soil on the exterior. If it slopes toward the home or structures like patios were built incorrectly, it can cause water to get in over the top of the wall. There are a few options to rectify the situation.
What You Can Expect During the Project
Installing a waterproof sealant entails the following steps:
- Dig a trench – our Northern Ohio waterproofing specialists will dig a trench around your home that goes down to the footings, if necessary. Sometimes this can be as much as eight feet down. It also has to be big enough for our specialists to work in.
- Clean the wall and apply a waterproof coating to the exterior. This coating is specially formulated for waterproofing exterior basement walls. Tile and stone drainage is installed, where applicable.
- Return the displaced soil around the home
Optional exterior drain tile – this is recommended for homes with excessively high groundwater. This will remove pressure from the basement walls and allow the water to drain off.

Why Basement Walls Fail
The soil that surrounds your home can cause a large amount of stress on the walls of your basement. The burden caused by the soil depends on the soil type, how moist the soil is, and how deep your foundation goes.
Other contributing factors to bowing walls are expansive soils, improper drainage systems, and the freeze/thaw effect. When the pressure coming from the exterior is greater than the stability of your walls, the walls will fail. Cracks are the first sign of a problem, but walls may also start to tilt, bow, or buckle. If nothing is done, the damage may result in walls that collapse.
However, if the job needs to be done immediately, Daniel's Waterproofing can handle that, too. We'll come out and give you a free estimate based on your home's unique needs. We can usually start your project as quickly as the situation requires.

Wall Realignment & Reinforcement
If you've just noticed that your basement walls are buckled, chances are there's been a problem behind the scenes for quite some time. The most common culprit of bowed walls is water pressing against the outside of the foundation, also known as hydrostatic pressure. This pressure can be so great that the walls cannot handle any more force, causing them to bow or buckle. Other reasons your basement walls might be failing are clays that expand and freeze and thaw, which causes soil to expand and put pressure against the walls.
No matter what the issue, trust our basement waterproofing experts for the help you need. Schedule your free estimate today.
Options for Reinforcing Your Basement Walls
Stressed foundation walls are a serious problem and should be attended to right away. There are a few options available to homeowners to rectify the situation. The experts at Daniel's Waterproofing would be happy to discuss your options in detail. These may include:
- Steel beam foundation reinforcement
- Carbon fiber strips – these are affixed to the wall with epoxy and are used to reinforce weak areas. They do not prevent the walls from leaning.
- Helical anchors – used for raising structures
- Foundation anchors – a commonly used anchor system that can reinforce and sometimes stabilize. We find this to be much less effective.
- Pressure Release; Straighten & Reinforce Method – This has proved to be the best, most effective, and most economical method available.
