A Basement Makeover
Do you remember when you were a kid and grew mold on a web slice of bread? Think back on that experiment if you’re looking to finish your basement with drywall.
Mold loves three things - darkness, dampness and a cellulose food source.
In other words, the drywall in your basement.
“Drywall captures and absorbs moisture” explains Dan Poling, owner of Daniel’s Construction.” Once you get mold, you can start to lose value in your home.
The local based company offers a new, exclusive soft-wall basement finishing system that is not only mold resistant, but features so many other advantages over drywall that if you don’t have a basement to make over, you may want to start digging one.
Dan, who has been in the basement waterproofing & repair business 35 years, is convinced that this is the only way to do a basement.
“This is a no-brainer,” he insists.
“It is the best system in the area. There’s no reason anybody should ever use drywall below grade.”
Daniel’s Construction provides turnkey basement makeovers that include walls, floor coverings, ceilings, even kitchens and bathrooms. Key to the system is the fabric-covered, four-by-eight foot fiberglass panels that substitute for drywall - but without the cracks, mold and the need to paint. There are more than 300 different fabrics to choose from.
The system is not only attractive, but also practical. A PVC framing system at the top, bottom and sides holds the panels in place. But upon installation the frames become invisible. If you have to take one out, say to access an electrical line for instance, a panel can be removed in less than a minute. “Anyone can do it,” Dan assures. “The panels are almost impossible to ruin.” Dan says. “The fabric doesn’t absorb stains and cleans easily.” And, when it’s time to redecorate, the fabric can easily be changed.
Polystyrene “studs” glued to the wall behind the panels not only provide reinforcement, but serve another important function: Insulation.
The panels themselves are made from insulation-grade fiberglass. In addition to the polystyrene strips create a gap of dead air between the panels and the basement wall.
“It is very difficult to transmit heat and cold through dead air,” Dan says.
“It’s the same concept as thermal pane windows, they dramatically increase the insulation factor of your basement.”
Although the panels are designed for below-grade applications, their outstanding acoustics make them perfect for your home theater - in the basement or anywhere else in the house.
“The panels are 85 percent acoustically perfect,” Dan says.
And here’s something that sounds even better - the price.
“We’re very competitive,” Dan says. “The cost of the system is about the same as drywall. But the installation takes about a quarter of the time of putting in drywall. With this system you’re paying for the benefits of the system, not for the drywall installer’s time. I believe a home is a lot more marketable with a soft-wall basement system. Just by appreciation you can recover the cost of installation within two years.”
Less installation time means you get to enjoy your new basement a lot earlier. Plus, there is very little mess to clean up.
“We don’t have the sawing and sanding and painting you have when you install drywall,” Dan notes.
“When you call Daniel’s Construction in for a quote, they’ll give you a hard price on soft walls. No surprises.
“It’s a complete turn-key system” Dan says. “As soon as we leave, you can walk right in with your furniture.”
Daniel’s Construction offers an affordable option to expanding your home’s living space. A cold, dark basement can easily be transformed into a safe, warm usable space for your entire family. With a basement makeover from Daniel’s Construction, you’re helping the local economy. The panels are constructed locally.
